Bring Down Walls: Pray Without Ceasing

Early 1980s Leipzig, Germany prayer vigil

Prayer vigils played a historically documented role in the fall of the Berlin Wall. Beginning in the early 1980s, “Prayers for Peace” were held on Mondays at the St. Nicholas Church in Leipzig, East Germany. These non-violent, prayer-based vigils grew in number. Eventually, they led to massive demonstrations that overwhelmed the East German authorities and helped bring about the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Prayer changes hearts. As the Apostle Paul called the early Christians to pray without ceasing (I Thessalonians 5:16), we also pray for God and neighbor—especially our neighbors affected by the changes in the world.

There are two locations for you to choose from:

  • Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church’s Koch Chapel (1200 N. Campbell Ave.) on the 3rd Mondays at 5:30p.

  • New Spirit Lutheran Church (8701 E Old Spanish Trail) every Wednesday at 9:00a.

These opportunities to pray with others are open to the community. Please come as you are; there is no need to pre-register or come every time. Just show up when you can. Learn more about Pray Without Ceasing at praywithoutceasing.world.

We hope this 30 minutes of prayer, candle lighting, and singing—at either time or location—will provide an opportunity for you to pause, gather, and pray together for our world, our community, and one another.
