Our Welcome Statement

The Lutheran Church of the Foothills welcomes, celebrates, and advocates for all of God’s beloved children, inviting all to participate fully in the organizational and sacramental life of this congregation, including people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions; people of all races, ethnic backgrounds, and countries of origin; people of all physical and intellectual abilities; and people of all marital and socioeconomic backgrounds. As a loving Christian community, we are committed to fighting racism, antisemitism, xenophobia, ageism, homophobia, and sexism, wherever they exist.

So God created humans in God’s image.
— Genesis 1:27a

We are a Reconciling in Christ congregation.

In 2006, Lutheran Church of the Foothills became a Reconciling in Christ (RIC) congregation—a program of Reconciling Works: Lutherans For Full Participation. What does this mean? We believe that every person reflects the face of God. We welcome all people… no exceptions.

How do we put our love into action? For several years, our congregation has partnered with other local churches in Tucson to march in the annual Tucson Pride parade and be a presence at the Pride Festival.

Since 1997, Lutheran Church of the Foothills has partnered with the Tucson Interfaith HIV/AIDS Network (TIHAN). Each year, our congregation partners with other churches to sponsor the POZ Cafe, a monthly outreach to those in the community affected by HIV/AIDS. Not only do we help provide supplies for the care bags that are given to TIHAN guests, but we also volunteer to help decorate and pack the bags and assist with the luncheon.

Reconciling Works: Lutherans For Full Participation

Reconciling Works is an independent 501(c)3 organization, and, since 1974, it has advocated for the full welcome, inclusion, and equity of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual/aromantic (LGBTQIA+) Lutherans in all aspects of the life of their Church, congregations, and community. The Reconciling in Christ program is part of Reconciling Works and includes congregations, synods, colleges, seminaries, and other Lutheran faith communities that publicly welcome LGBTQIA+ people.
