Read & Yak Book Discussion: April 25, 12:00 noon
Jean E. Pendziwol’s award-winning children’s books charm children and parents alike. Read & Yak will discuss Jean E. Pendziwol’s first novel for adults, “The Lightkeeper’s Daughters” on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 12:00p to 1:30p, led by Pat Walker (assisted by Leslie Johnson). Bring your lunch to enjoy as we gather in person in the Activities Room and online via Zoom. Click here to join the Zoom discussion. Meeting ID: 822 7558 0676. Passcode: 844657.
PLEASE NOTE! There are at least two other novels with very similar titles. Be sure that the book you are reading (1) is by Jean E. Pendziwol, and (2) is titled “The Lightkeeper’s Daughters” (plural “Daughters” – with an “s” at the end).
An instant Toronto Star and Globe and Mail bestseller, Jean E. Pendziwol’s debut adult novel is an affecting story that explores identity and the meaning of family. Spanning more than 80 years, the writing is lyrical, descriptive, and haunting. It is a tale told by a young person who assists an elderly woman with limited vision by reading journals to her. The description of life as the daughter of a lighthouse keeper on Porphyry Island in Ontario is delightful, and the tale ends with a surprise twist. (Porphyry Island is in Lake Superior, northeast of Isle Royale National Park.)
All are welcome at Read & Yak
You do not need to be a participant at Lutheran Church of the Foothills to enjoy the Read & Yak books discussions; some attendees join us from out of state via Zoom. We read all sorts of genres, from science fiction to historical novels to nonfiction to memoir and beyond. Each January, participants choose the monthly reading list for that year. (If you are looking for a good theological-oriented book discussion, you might be interested in participating in Beyond the Book; read more in that news article.)
Read & Yak gathers in person in the Activities Room and online via Zoom from 12:00p to 1:30p on the fourth Saturday of the month. Feel free to bring your lunch to enjoy as we discuss the book for that month. Even if you haven’t finished reading the book, attendees will enjoy your participation in the conversation.
