Understanding Liturgical Decor
The season of Epiphany begins on January 6 with the Feast of Epiphany and concludes on Transfiguration Sunday, before the beginning of the Lenten season. Epiphany means “to make manifest” or “something partially visible.” It is the season of light. The veil covering Jesus, illuminated with lights, reminds us that we catch glimpses of Christ during Epiphany, but we never fully see Christ because our vision is obscured. Transfiguration tells the story of the disciples going up the mountain with Jesus and his appearance in a cloud that limits their clear vision of Christ.
