Everyone Can Help Make Christmas Brighter!
Let’s extend our generosity to older adults and children in our community by helping Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest (LSS-SW) provide holiday gifts to the people they serve. Each year, LSS-SW collects special gifts and everyday essentials for older adults, children, and families in their programs. This year, they are asking for your help with two important needs:
Bath Towel Sets for Older Adults: LSS-SW is collecting new bath towel sets for older adults served through their Aging & Disability Services. Their goal is for each older adult to receive two bath towels and two hand towels. Cheerful or dark colors are preferred. Please no white towels.
Toys for Children: Help make Christmas morning a little brighter for children across LSS-SW programs. LSS-SW is collecting new toys, games, sporting equipment, arts, and crafts to give children something special to open this Christmas.
“We could absolutely use your support this Christmas. We would need help with wrapping, bagging and possibly sorting toys for Refugee clients,“ emails Jessica O’Donnell-Akinade, LSS-SW Volunteer Coordinator.
As a partner in God’s work with Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest, here’s how we at Lutheran Church of the Foothills can support LSS-SW this Christmas:
Pray: Pray for the well-being of the people LSS-SW serves, their staff and volunteers, and that this year’s holiday gifts programs bring cheer to them all.
Donate gifts purchased locally: Purchase colored bath towel sets and new toys, and bring them (unwrapped) to church by Sunday, December 13. You can also donate gift-wrapping supplies (paper, tape, bags, ribbon, etc.). Place items on and under the Community Engagement Team table in the narthex.
Donate gifts purchased online: Visit LSS-SW’s Amazon Wish List (click here), where you can have your purchases of towels, toys, and gift-wrapping supplies shipped directly to LSS-SW. (The deadline for gifts to be received at the LSS-SW office is Monday, December 14, by 1:00 pm – Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest, 3777 E. Donate money: If you do not want to shop, give a special donation through LCF (clearly designated for LSS-SW gifts).
If you are a Thrivent Member: You can use your Thrivent Action Grant to purchase the items.
Volunteer to sort and wrap gifts: During the week of December 13, join other volunteers at the LSS-SW office near Broadway & Alvernon to help sort and wrap the presents. There will be opportunities for people who prefer to sit as well as for those who want to be more active. Sign up on the interest sheet on the Activities Counter and we’ll let you know the details as soon as they become available.
