Our partnership with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is Community Service Team’s Emphasis for August and September.
A tagline is a short phrase used by organizations (and sometimes by individuals) to present who they are in a short, memorable way. When lived out in truthfulness, taglines are effective in drawing recognition to the organization and encouraging others to join their purpose for being. Can you name the organizations that use these taglines? (Keep reading to find the answers.)
Empowering Neighbors in Need
Melts in your mouth, not in your hands
God’s love made real
King of Beers
Empowered to serve
The Happiest Place on Earth
Helping people with HIV to live well
The tagline “Empowered to serve” reflects Lutheran Church of the Foothills’ reason for being: Called and empowered to proclaim the radical love of Christ through lives of service. “Empowered to serve” encapsulates our purpose statement in a succinct way that we all can relate to and actively help to be a reality.
God’s love is made real through the ELCA
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) has a tagline, too. “God’s love made real” shows how we as a church can live into the vision of a world experiencing the difference God’s grace and love in Christ make for all people and creation. So that we, and other congregations in the ELCA, can effectively make God’s love real, churchwide’s reason for being is to activate each of us so more people know the way of Jesus and discover community, justice, and love.
How the ELCA’s churchwide structure activates us so that God’s love is made real in both our local and global neighborhoods will be the topic of future articles throughout August and September. We will be exploring some of the ways the ELCA’s 8,900 congregations, 65 synods, and multitude of ministries are helping the world around us know the love of God in Jesus. Be sure to read each edition of “Weekly Footnotes” and visit the Community Service Emphasis display table in the narthex for more information about the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
“God’s Love Made Real” is about the ELCA’s service in a world experiencing the difference God’s grace and love in Christ make for all people and creation. The whole church, together, is called to share that grace and love in word and deed, because God’s love is real.
