The Region 2 40-40-40 Lenten Challenge 2026 Is Coming!

As with previous years, the 40-40-40 Lenten Challenge provides you with the opportunity to participate in personal and community Lenten practices that stretch your learning, care, and advocacy muscles on behalf of underserved communities helped by ELCA World Hunger, a ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).

Participants are encouraged to commit to 3 of these 4 (or all 4!) practices during the 40 days of Lent:

  • Daily Devotion. Subscribe to receive devotions every day of Lent via email. Si

  • Daily Learning. Read the ELCA social teachings. Study and pray Matthew 25. Join ELCA networks such as AMMPARO, PRAN, LRC, and ELCA World Hunger. Participate in a group study on advocacy. Learn about current events and legislation. Journal.

  • Daily Action. Volunteer at a food bank. Donate clothes and sundries. Clean up your local watershed, visit someone in the hospital. Pray for elected leaders. Plan or participate in a prayer vigil. Meet your legislator, write a letter. Donate books to a prison.

  • Daily Donation. Pledge $1 a day (or more) to ELCA World Hunger during Lent.

The Region 2 Lenten Challenge is a friendly competition among the 5 Region 2 synods for a good cause: to assist ELCA World Hunger as they provide for underserved communities around the world. The goal is for individuals representing 50 congregations per synod to participate. The synod with the most participants “wins.”
